THOMASVILLE – Thomasville’s soccer teams had a winning start to their playoffs last week. The girls won their opener 5-1 over Barrow in the Class A Division I playoffs, while the boys were victorious as well, winning 5-1 over Social Circle.
Thomasville’s girls, seeded No. 3, will host Toombs County, seeded No. 14, on Thursday at 5 p.m. Thomasville’s boys, seeded No. 6, will host either Gordon Central or Coosa on Friday. Their first-round match was scheduled for Monday.
Jackson Bennett and Geo Ulloa each scored two goals to pace the Thomasville boys in their opener. Farid Gonzalez scored the other goal.
“We started with some nerves and made a few early mistakes, but once we settled down, we played really well,” Thomasville boys coach Robert Peterson said.
Thomasville girls coach Lucas Kimmel was also complimentary about how his team performed.
“We prepared very well for them. We studied film, did our own little bit of scouting to make sure we were prepared to handle anything they threw at us,” Kimmel said. “The girls played very well. The score was about what it was expected. We got ahead, and they got a lucky goal. We got all the girls a little bit of time on the field as well.”
