Busy summers plannned at YMCA, TCRD

TIFTON — Summer time is no time for rest at the Tiftarea YMCA and the Tift County Recreation Department. Local residents can take part in a number of activities.
The YMCA will be offering summer sports camps. Here is a look at that schedule: baseball, ages 3-4 and ages 5-12, June 26-29; cheerleading, ages 3-4 and ages 5-12, July 11-14; football, ages 5-12, July 11-15; and hockey, ages 5-16, July 18-21. Each camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day.
Arena flag football registration will be ongoing until July 1. Teams are for players, ages 13-18 and for ages 18-up. The season will begin August 2.
There will be day camp swim lessons running from June 26-August 5.
The local YMCA is also hosting Y-Day Camps. Here is a look at the plans for each week of the Y-Day Camps.
June 29: Young Angler’s Week, Paradise Lakes in Enigma; July 6, Wacky Water Week, All-American Fun Park in Albany; July 13, Chehaw Zoo, Safari Week, Chehaw Park in Albany; July 20, Gator Bait Week, Okefenokee Swamp Park in Waycross; July 27, Alley Cat Week, Tift County Lanes; and Aug. 3, Back to School Week, Skate Party at Tiftarea YMCA.

A YMCA membership gives individuals access to the Stafford Aquatic Center, aerobics/exercise classes, weight machines, an outdoor walking track, treadmills, elliptical trainers, recumbent bikes, special events and program discounts.
The TCRD is holding day camps for children, ages 5-12. Activities include swimming, board games, group sports actitivies, group exercise, arts and crafts, outdoor games, bowling and music time. Lowe’s will also be coming to do kid clinic.
There will also be field trips to the fire station, as well as an end-of-summer trip to The All-American Fun Park in Albany.
The camp is ongoing and registration is required prior to the week attending. A fee system is set up for weekly, daily and 1/2 day scales.
Besides the summer day camps, there are also summer sports camps. Camps for softball, baseball, football, basketball and soccer will be held during July and August.
During the month of August, registration will be ongoing for soccer, football and cheerleading. The cheerleading teams will be assigned to the TCRD’s football teams.
In late August or early September, there will also be registraiton for flag football.
After years of going more than one day, the annual All-Comer’s Track and Field Meet will be condensed into an one day event this year, TCRD officials said. The meet will be held sometime in September.
