- THE FASTEST AROUND: Charlotte Sikes poses with her award as the fastest female runner in the Pink Run 5K.
THOMASVILLE — Archbold hosted the seventh annual Pink Run on Saturday morning for breast cancer awareness. The 5K/fun run event drew a large number of participants as the fun run had roughly 30 runners, while the 5K had over 225 participants. Individuals were out in full force as well as larger groups who participated. Groups like Townie Fitness and Pray for Lauren, who won the award for the largest group of participants.
This was the first year Archbold hosted the fun run before the 5K for kids. Many kids lined up to run in the one mile race before adults, all clad in pink, got set at the starting line for the 5K.
Many of the runners dressed up in fun pink outfits that included boas, tutus, and a number of clever shirts bringing awareness to breast cancer.
“We want to make people aware that breast cancer is treatable. Awareness is the big thing,” said Todd Bennett, the clinical outreach manager of Archbold. “If you find out early on then survival is a lot better chances. That’s why we host these events for breast cancer awareness.”
It was Daniel Cook who took first place in the 5K with a time of 17:55, just five seconds slower than his personal best. Elliot Butler was close behind and finished second with a time of 18:08, while Elias Lopez-Gomez rounded out the top three with a time of 20:03. Charlotte Sikes was fourth overall and the fastest overall female runner with a time of 20:25
Many were thankful and inspired by the event, with the Pray for Lauren group posting to their Facebook saying, “Words cannot even begin to express how thankful I am for all of these people who came out to participate in the Pink Run with us! Such a wonderful morning spent with family and friends!”
