Severe weather lashes Coolidge; Cairo damage reported

COOLIDGE — Over two weeks ago, a deluge of inclement weather ravaged through Thomas County. A second string of severe weather left Coolidge scathed in its wake Tuesday night.
Chris Jones, Thomas County emergency management director, said severe thunderstorms and winds swept through the small Thomas County town.

Multiple houses with downed trees have been reported.
Businesses with extensive roof damage also have been reported.
Jones added the city is without power.
On Wednesday morning, Jones said a team to assess the damage in Coolidge was assembled.
“We’re essentially assessing but helping them (City of Coolidge) recover,” Jones said.
Cairo and Grady County also suffered damage.

According to Grady County Administrator Carlos Tobar, the damage is being assessed. Tobar added damage was visible once the rains abated.
According to the National Weather Service, damage in Cairo has been reported, including downed trees on Pine Circle and Bold Springs Road. Four downed trees were reported near Lewis Road.
Downed power lines also were reported within Cairo. A broken power pole was reported in Whigham.
