THOMASVILLE- The Thomasville High School AFJROTC unit had a formal unit assessment on February 4, 2025, where Regional Director of the Air Force Junior ROTC Dwayne Gray presented the team with a 94.8/A, one of the highest ratings attainable.

The purpose of a formal unit assessment is to provide feedback regarding the performance of the AFJROTC unit and assess its compliance with public law, Department of Defense and Air Force instructions, and the written agreements that exist between Thomasville City Schools and the Air Force.

During the unit assessment, Gray commended the work of the TCS AFJROTC.

“Congratulations to you, your instructor team, and the cadet corps.,” he said. “The cadets were very impressive and displayed exemplary pride in their unit.”

Gray told AFJROTC Senior Aerospace Science Instructor Capt. Veronica Parnell, she should be proud.

“Your strong support for the unit has greatly contributed to its success and is most appreciated,” he said. “Captain (Retired) Veronica Parnell and Master Sergeant (Retired) Richard Cleary are clearly invested in the development of the cadet corps, along with providing unsurpassed levels of mentorship.”

Gray acknowledged the work that has gone into the unit evaluation, noting that it takes weeks of preparation and teamwork to achieve such a high rating.

The unit evaluation entails a comprehensive assessment of the entire program, including cadet appearance, drill and ceremony performance, leadership skills, community service involvement, and overall unit readiness.

Inspectors evaluate cadets on their knowledge of the unit via briefings, discipline, and ability to follow commands, often including a thorough uniform inspection and in-rank drill demonstration.

Parnell was proud of the team, who displayed grit throughout the assessment, and said she thanks everyone who continues to support the AFJROTC program and its mission to develop citizens of character for America.
