THOMASVILLE — Thomasville Fire and Rescue crews are cleaning up after a fire Sunday at Scott Elementary School.
An investigation into what led to the fire is underway and school officials also are assessing the damage.
Parts of the school building suffered extensive water and smoke damage.
Jackson Street between Glenwood Drive and Hansell Street was closed for three hours as Thomasville Fire and Rescue worked on the incident.
The fire and its aftermath also have forced the city schools system to postpone its BARK summer reading program, which is held at Scott Elementary School, and the 21st Century Summer Program this week, Scott Principal Nathan Espy said. Both programs will move to Harper Elementary.
