THOMASVILLE — A house fire that occurred at the 900 block of Remington Avenue early Monday morning left a family’s home damaged.

Officials received a call about a structure fire around 9:13 a.m. and arrived at the scene to put out the fire.

Thomasville Fire and Rescue Chief Tim Connell said the family of three who lived at the residence got out safely, but a dog was still inside.

“All occupants were out of the house. We did an initial knockdown of the fire and they told us they had a dog inside, which we did recover,” he said. “The dog is fine.”

Investigators reported that the fire was caused by a cooking accident that left a lot of damage behind.

“The Red Cross is coming in to help find them a place to live, but there is extensive fire damage to the kitchen/dining room area and extensive smoke damage throughout the entire house,” Connell said.
