Whigham FFA to have plant sale
The Whigham School FFA is having a fall plant sale on Nov. 11. A complete listing of the plants for sale will be available soon or you may get more information by contacting the school or Tracy Champagne at t.champagne@grady.k12.ga.us.

Boys and Girls Club to hold Diamond Affair
The Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club of Cairo-Grady County will be having its fifth annual Diamond Affair on Nov. 16 at the Grady Cultural Center beginning at 7 p.m. The guest speaker is Taurean Prince of the Atlanta Hawks. To purchase tickets or be a sponsor of the event, call 378-3099. All proceeds from the evening will benefit the Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club.
Providence Baptist Church plans gospel sing
Brian Free and Assurance, one of the most popular gospel groups touring in the U.S. according to church officials, will be appearing in concert at Providence Baptist Church this Sunday at 11 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend this special service. The church is located at 975 Providence Rd. in Whigham.
Downtown merchants to host trick or treating

The merchants of Downtown Cairo and the City of Cairo Main Street will be sponsoring the annual “Boo on Broad” again this year on Tuesday. All children 12 and under are invited to dress up in their favorite costume and come trick or treat at the downtown stores and businesses from 3 to 5 p.m.
Hurricane relief drive being held
One of the small islands that received severe damage from Hurricane Maria was the Commonwealth of Dominica where many of the buildings were destroyed and the residents have been left homeless. Local resident Gerard Theophile is a native of the island and still has family who lives on the tiny Caribbean island. He and his wife, Renee Gee-Theophile, are conducting a relief drive for Dominica and collecting items such as tarps, roofing materials, non-perishable food, batteries, baby items, cleaning materials, towels and bath rags, hair items, seeds and gardening supplies, toys and barrels for shipping that will delivered to the island soon. Donations will be accepted through Sunday at Cairo DUI and Right Way Defensive Driver School on 1st Avenue, SW in Cairo from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monetary donations will also be accepted and all items donated will be delivered to the people in need on Dominica in November.
Woman’s Club selling tickets for grocery raffle
The Cairo Woman’s Club, in conjunction with Cairo IGA, is currently selling raffle tickets for two chances to win $250 worth of groceries. Members will be selling the tickets through Nov. 16 when two winners will be drawn at the store. Tickets are on sale for $5 each or five tickets for $20. Proceeds from the raffle will be used to support the Woman’s Club scholarship fund, which provides a scholarship for two young people each year. Turkey shoot to benefit Whigham
The Whigham Community Development Council will be holding a turkey shoot on Nov. 11 to help raise money for the beautification and activity plans for the city. The event will be held at the Whigham Rattlesnake Roundup Grounds starting at 9 a.m. All shooters must bring their own 12 or 20 gauge shotgun and pay $5 per shot. Shells will be provided to all shooters. There will be 10 shooters per round and the shooters who gets the pellet closest to the X on the target will win a gift certificate for a frozen turkey.
Semper Fidelis Club to hold fashion show
The Semper Fidelis Club will be hosting a Fashion/Entertainment Extravaganza at the Grady County AgriCenter on Saturday, Nov. 18 starting at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door and all proceeds will benefit the club’s scholarship fundraiser. For ticket information, contact any club member.
Roddenbery Library activities for youngest patrons
The Roddenbery Memorial Library has a new “Mommy (or caretaker) & Me” class. Every week we will experience a new activity or developmentally appropriate craft for children birth to 12 months. The Book Baby class meets every Monday at 10 a.m. in the Children’s Room of the library.
Applications being accepted for Christmas Parade
This year’s annual Cairo Christmas Parade will take place on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. This year’s theme is “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!” and we know this year’s parade will be the best one yet. Parade applications can be picked up at the chamber for anyone interested. If you’d like for an application to be mailed to you, contact the Chamber with your information.
