Palmer Reunion 

The 59th annual reunion of the descendants of Charles Palmer and Elizabeth Lee will be held Sunday at Mizpah Primitive Baptist Church located in north Grady County off Ga. Hwy. 112. The business meeting will be held at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch in the fellowship hall.  Relatives are asked to come and bring a covered dish.  For more information, call Dot Coble Schlabach at 294-1059.

The Cairo Charter High School Governing Board will be meeting on Tuesday, July 30th at 5 p.m. in the Media Center. Principal David McCurry reminds are members to please attend.

 

Party

As part of the Summer Reading Program, the Roddenbery Memorial Library will hold a Jawsome Back to School Party on Tuesday, July 30 at 7 p.m. Mike Connor, PhD from the Jones Ecological Research Center will present a program for the entire family on predator ecology.  Young participants will help track gopher tortoises with radio receivers.  The whole family is invited to attend this event.

 

Auditions

The Syrup City Players will be having auditions for their fall show, “The Hobbit,” on Friday and Saturday at the Roddenbery Libary.  The show will be held Oct. 4-5 outdoors at Davis Park in Cairo and will be directed by Pat Orr. The cast calls for a total of 29 actors, ages 10-21. Auditions will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, in the library’s Grady Room and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon in the library’s auditorium.

 

Registration

The Grady County Recreation Department will be holding registration for the 2013 Fall Sports season through August. You may register for Smurf Flag Football, Pee Week Tackle Football, Mite Tackle Football and MIdget Tackle Football and Cheerleading through Aug. 16. Registration for soccer will be held through Aug. 26. Registration will be held at the Rec Department office on the Pelham Highway, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  For more information, call 377-8221.

Bryant Reunion

The Bryant, Williams and Maxwell Family Reunion will be held on Sunday at the Reno Community Center at 150 Bryon St., in Reno.  Everyone is invited to come and bring a covered dish.  The building will open at 11:30 a.m. with lunch being served at 1 p.m.  For more information, call 404-455-6512.

 

Lunch series

The Roddenbery Memorial Library invites everyone to their Brown Bag Lunch Series on Wednesdays at noon in the library auditorium. Everyone is invited to bring their lunch and join the library for a brief program on all types of healthy living.  The program is free.

 

Library programs

The Roddenbery Memorial Library will be having several programs for teens and tweens during the month of July.  On Thursday,  from 3 to 5 p.m. will be ‘Altered Book Crafts’ with Dr. Zerric Clinton for ages 8-12.  Also, on Tuesday, July 30 from 6 to 8 p.m., don’t miss the Back to School Extravaganza.  For more information about the Summer Reading Program, visit www.rmlibrary.org.

 

Revival

The Riders for Christ Cowboy Church invites everyone to come hear Team for Christ Evangelists Sammy and Andy Ferrell from Milledgeville at 11 a.m., Sunday. Sammy is the author of the book, “From Prison to the Pulpit” and will be sharing his unique testimony.  The church is located at 1294 Union Hill Rd., Pelham.

 

NRA banquet

The Flint River Friends of the NRA and the Grady County Shooting Sports program invite area residents to participate in the 2013 Annual Fund Raising Supper and Auction which will be held at the Grady Cultural Center on Saturday, Aug. 3. The evening’s events will begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour and viewing of the silent auction itmes followed by a seafood supper and the live auction. The auction will feature special drawings and many ‘one of a kind’ firearms.  Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple and can be purchased at South Georgia Outdoors or the Grady County 4-H office.  For more information, call Deron Rehberg at 377-1312.

 

GospelFest

The Pink Ladies of the Faith Temple Church, located at 231 Legion Blvd. S.W. in Cairo will be sponsoring a GospelFest at 5 p.m., Aug. 3. Funds raised from the event will benefit the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on Oct. 5. Special Guests will include Chosen for Columbus,  Calandra Williams from Smith Station, Ala., Uplifting Voices of Bainbridge, Narvareaz Colson of Thomasville, DOJM Praise Team of Thomasville and many more.  Everyone is invited to attend this wonderful event. For more information, call 377-9318.
