Verdie Belle Rice
NASHVILLE — Verdie Belle Rice, 89, of Nashville, died Friday, July 28, 2006, at Tift Health Care.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. today at the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home in Nashville, with the Rev. Mitchell Deems and the Rev. Carl Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Nashville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3 to 5 p.m. at Lovein Funeral Home.
Born March 23, 1917, in Berrien County, Mrs. Rice was the daughter of William Evant Clanton and Effie Jane McNabb, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Langley, and six brothers, Clarence Clanton, Floyd Clanton, Daniel Clanton, G.H. Clanton, William “Duck” Clanton and Gene Clanton.
She was a homemaker and a member of Forest Hill Freewill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Rice is survived by her husband of 41 years, Harvey Rice of Nashville; two sisters, Mamie Hewitt and Thelma Griner, both of Nashville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lovein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Maxie Wendell Johnson
VINCENT, Ala. — Maxie Wendell Johnson, 71, of Vincent, died Thursday, July 27, 2006, at his residence.
Memorial services will be held at noon Monday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Alpine, Ala., with Father Frank Young officiating.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, Alpine, AL 35014.
Born Jan. 9, 1935, in Doerun, Mr. Johnson was the son of Ralph Henley Johnson and Estelle Cole Johnson, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Helen; a sister, Nellie Johnson Shanks; and a brother, Herbert Lee Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was a graduate of Albany High School and Southern PolyTech and served in the U.S. Army. He was employed with Engineered Components Inc. as sales manager and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Thomas Johnson of Vincent; one son, Michael Johnson of Leesburg; one stepson, James R. Wall (Loraine) of Helena, Ala.; one daughter, Tracy Johnson Israel (Charles) of Smithville; two sisters, Peggy Johnson Posnick (Sam) of Albany and Helen Johnson Patrick (Gibbs) of Omega; his grandchildren, Hollis and Merritt Johnson, Trevor, Chance and Delanie Israel and Jaci and Jared Hall; and numerous family and friends.
Holland Memorial Chapel in Priceville, Ala., is in charge of arrangements.
