Rant and Rave for May 30, 2006

Amen

“Amen. I agree with ‘Use existng first.’ There are so many buildings in this town empty. Please use them first. Don’t build buildings that later in the years will empty. Look at the old Blockbuster building in the K-mart shopping center. Been empty for years as well. Use up the empty buildings first.”

Bring it on

“This is a Rant for all of the people in Tifton who cannot obviously deal with change. …Anyone who is interested in bringing a new business into Tifton is not going to put more money into a building than what it is actually worth. Would you? Some of those buildings need to be replaced with new ones. Think about safety also. Let Tifton grow and let it grow in STYLE. Why have our stores looking old and run-down. Tifton is a beautiful town and we need beautiful buildings to keep it beautiful. Stop complaining and bring on the new business.”

Happy holiday

“Happy Memorial Day to my fellow veterans and other citizens on a day when we have over 70,000 troops guarding the Korean border, more than 30,000 National Guard troops in Iraq, and there is argument over 6,000 to guard our own border!”

Replace CRCT

“I am a teacher and the CRCT is incredibly easy when compared to other standardized tests. The CRCT should be done away with and replaced with a more valid testing instrument.”

Small sacrifice

“Once again I filmed the Memorial Day event at the cemetery in Tifton. I don’t know if it’s the time it is being held or where it is being held. The crowd was so small and the sacrifice has been so big. Hats off to the eight or nine young people that were there and the veterans that stood the heat. I know war is not pleasant but a few minutes to say thank you for what you have done for the country is a small sacrifice. We can do better than this for the veterans. Hayward Fowler”

Death wish

“This is about Walgreens. I come from Lyons, Ga. If you have never heard of it, it’s because the city leaders didn’t want it to grow. The best way to find Lyons is to say ‘I’m from Vidalia, Onion Capital of the World.’ If you don’t let new businesses come in, then your town will finally die.”

Pros and cons

“As an ex-paraprofessional for 13 years, I am still not sure whether of not (the CRCT) test is a good thing. While working with students I saw how much stress this test was for the students. Then I became a grandmother and I saw how much stress it put on my grandaughter. …The children are way too young for this kind of stress… Also, I know from working with a school system for 13 years that if a child has kept passing grades during the year, the school CANNOT hold them back because of failing the CRCT. Don’t let them tell you anything different. If in doubt… check with the State of Georgia Board of Education.”

Still the same

“In response to ‘One Example,’ when a virus or bacteria become resistant they mutate, true. But they do not change species, they remain the same species. They simply develop a better immunity to the source impacting their survival. However, they are still virus and bacteria!”
