Tax officegetting upgrade

The Grady County Tax Commissioners office will closing Thursday, May 23 through Tuesday, May 28 in order to covert to the new Georgia Department of Revenue’s Driver Record and Integrated Vehicle Enterprise software system. The changeover to the new system also falls over the Memorial Day weekend with Monday being a holiday for Grady County. Grady County Tax Commissioner Barbara Darus reminds citizens that if your birthday falls during the closure time, all penalties will be waived if you come in on Tuesday, May 29 to renew your tag. Black Authors Book Club meets May 28

The Black Authors Book Club will be meeting at the Roddenbery Memorial Library on Tuesday, May 28 at 6 p.m. You are invited to come join the group and enjoy reading and discussing the fascinating works of some of the world’s best writers and poets.

Revival at New White Springs Church

New White Springs M.B. Church is having its annual revival services Wednesday, May 29 through Friday, May 31 at 7 each evening.  The Rev. Terrell Carter is the guest evangelist for the revival and everyone in the community is invited to attend.

City budget hearing planned

City of Cairo officials are conducting a public hearing on Tuesday, May 28 beginning at 6 p.m. for the purpose of receiving citizen input on the proposed fiscal year 2019-2020 budget. The meeting will be held in the council chambers which is located next to City Hall at 101-B North Broad St. A draft copy of the proposed budget is available for inspection at the office of the Cairo City Manager from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Summer reading program to kick off

The Roddenbery Memorial Library officials will have a Kick Off Party for its summer reading program, called Summer Discovery, on Saturday June 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be activities and games for the kids, refreshments for everyone and registration for the summer programs for children, teens and adults. Everyone is invited to come join the library for a great summer of discovery in the newly remodeled facility.

Storytime for Children is Tuesdays and Thursdays

Officials of Roddenbery Memorial Library remind everyone now that renovations are complete at the library, there are several programs held in the library’s Children’s Room. Terrific Tales Storytime for ages 3-5 is held every Tuesday at 11 a.m.

Plus the Mother Goose Club has stories for children, ages birth to 3 on Thursdays at 11a.m. All area children and their parents are invited to attend.

needed

Volunteers are sought by Roddenbery Memorial Library to assist with important community projects. As the renovation to the main library building nears completion, volunteers are needed to help teach arts and to help with the summer lunch program.
