10th annual MLK Walk and Festival is Saturday

The 10th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Walk and Festival will be held Saturday at 1002 N. Broad St., Thomasville. The festival is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the walk is at noon.
Organizers will commemorate the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday by encouraging youth and adults to be humanitarians, encourage health ministries or teams in businesses, organizations and churches promote exercise to help combat adult and childhood obesity.
This year’s grand marshal is Marvin Dawson with special guest appearance by “Comedienne Joy” Joy Martin, a television show host, blogger, and comedienne from Birmingham, Alabama.
A high school college essay contest with a cash prize and the walk grand prize is an Orlando get-away. A humanitarian of the year, based on community recommendations, will be announced.
The event’s entertainment includes poets, dancers and comedians. Food vendors are offering the hungry event-goers seafood, barbecue, yogurt, beverages and baked goods. Other vendors are expected to offer clothing, shoes, purses, jewelry, arts and crafts.
Children and adult activities offered all day include face painting, bounce house, fire department children playhouse and mobile paint parties.
Members of the Health Archbold Live Better committee will offer cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure screenings from 9 to 11 a.m.
In lieu of registration or admission fee, donations can be made to Thomasville Homeless Coalition, the Jack Hadley Black History Museum Greater Restoration Community Outreach Development Project, The Rescue Mission Soup Kitchen and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Global Impact Initiative.
