Cairo shooting results in one injured

CAIRO — A Saturday shooting in Cairo resulted in an individual taken to the hospital for injuries. 

At approximately 2 p.m., a verbal dispute occurred near 4th Street NW and 3rd Avenue NW, according to a Cairo Police Department report. 

The dispute lead to a confrontation between LaDerrick Maynor and another individual. 

Another male, Malik Wallace, became involved and “fired three shots at Maynor, striking (him) once in the forearm,” according to the release. 

Maynor was transported to Grady General Hospital for treatment.

Wallace was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and discharging a firearm near a public roadway. 

According to the release, the individual involved in the initial dispute has not been charged in connection with the shooting.
