Club meeting

The Reno Community Club will be meeting on Thursday at 7 p.m. The will plan its annual Chicken Pilau.

All members of the community are encouraged to attend.

GOP convention

The 2015 Grady County Republican Party Convention will be held on March 14 in the Grady Room of the Roddenberry Memorial Library. The convention will begin at 9 a.m. per the GAGOP rules, so everyone is reminded to arrive early. All local Republicans are encouraged to attend.

Taste of the Town

The Grady General Support League will have its 3rd Annual Taste of the Town Spring Sampler on March 21 from 6-8 p.m. The event will be held at the Grady Cultural Center and is designed to showcase the unique delicious culinary dishes from the best cooks in and around Grady County. There also be restaurant vendors, the best at-home chef and a live band. Tickets cost $20 each and are on sale at Capital City Bank, United National Bank, Cairo Eye Care and Center Drugs, the Chamber of Commerce, Grady General Hospital and from members of the Grady General Support League. All proceeds from the even will be used to purchase a view finder and an operating room stretcher for the hospital.

Yard sale

The Cairo High School FBLA will be sponsoring a Community Wide Yard Sale on the front lawn of Cairo High School on Saturday. If you would like to rent a space for $15 or have any household items that you wish to donate for the sale, call Kevin Collins at 378-1177. All funds raised will be used to offset the cost of CHS FBLA student to attend conferences and competitions.

Revival

The Faith Temple Church at 231 Legion Blvd. in Cairo invites everyone to attend its March Madness Revival March 13-14 at 7 p.m. and March 15 at 11 a.m. Overseer/Pastor Kevin Williams of the True Praise Worship Center Church in Miami, Florida, will be the guest speaker.

Book signing

The Roddenbery Memorial Library will be hosting Shelly Kind, author of The Moment of Everything, during a special book signing on March 28 from 10 a.m.-noon. The Moment of Everything is a funny, romantic novel about a young woman finding her calling while saving a bookstore. Books will be available for purchase at the library.

Tax assistance

Library volunteers, Roy and Marie Murphy, will be providing tax assistance for senior citizens every Thursday from 10 a.m.-noon through April 9. Call the library for more information or to make an appointment.

Banquet tickets

The Grady County Sports Hall of Fame will be inducting three new members during the group’s annual banquet on March 28 at the Grady Cultural Center. This year’s inductees will include Janet Dixon, Wayne Thomas and Wayne Tootle. The group has also announced that it will be honoring the 1974 state champion girls basketball team from Cairo High and the ’70-’73 boys track teams.

Tickets for the banquet are $25 and now on sale from Grady County Sports Hall of Fame board members and at Cairo High School.

Cleanup

The Saint Paul M.B. Church of Whigham has announced a day for cleaning up the church cemetery on March 14 beginning at 8 a.m. All family members who have loved ones or family plots in the cemetery are asked to please participate in the cleanup. All other community friends are also invited to help. Everyone is invited to bring utensils and tools to aid in the cleaning process. For more information, call Deacon Alex Cornell at 378-8270.
