Settle tapped to lead Worth County Schools
THOMASVILLE — Bill Settle is trading in his red and gold for black and yellow.
Settle, Thomasville City Schools assistant superintendent of federal programs, was named the sole finalist for Worth County Schools superintendent last week.
The Worth County Board of Education will meet June 29 to cast the final vote.
“We’re already in the 14-day window,” Settle said, as the school board has to wait 14 days after naming one or more finalists for a new superintendent.
Settle went through two rounds of interviews for the Worth County School’s top spot.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to go and test my leadership skills,” he said.
Settle will begin as superintendent in July but a start date has not been determined.
“I’m just looking initially to go in and learn and absorb,” he said. “My ultimate goal is, of course, to make Worth County Schools better tomorrow than it is today.”
Settle also noted opportunities in Worth County, such as the new Worth County High School, for which ground was broken in April.
Settle had two tenures with Thomasville City Schools.
The first was back in 1994 as a one-year coach.
Settle returned to the city school system in 2004 as assistant principal of Thomasville High School for six years, and he was principal of MacIntyre Park Middle School for three years.
Settle will finish out his fourth year in his current position prior to relocating.
Noting his 13-year tenure with the city schools, Settle said he is “forever grateful” for the opportunity and support from Thomasville City Schools, notably from former superintendent Sabrina Boykins-Everett.
“I just can’t thank her enough for that,” Settle said.
New Superintendent Dr. Laine Reichert said Settle “possesses a passion for student success that serves as his motivation.”
“He has served the students and staff in Thomasville City School for many years at a level that will be difficult to replace,” Reichert added. “Worth County is fortunate to gain a person of Mr. Settle’s knowledge and experience. I have enjoyed working with him for the short time I have been here. He will be sorely missed.”
