Flanders named PBC Softball Player of the Week
AUGUSTA — After a stellar all-around effort last week, Georgia College softball (13-9, 2-0 PBC) senior Faith Flanders (Dublin) was named Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Week, helping power the team to an undefeated 6-0 record for the week ending March 5.
In a doubleheader sweep of non-conference opponent Albany State University, Flanders carried the hot bat, going 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs in game one. During the opening weekend of conference play, the Bobcat came up big in a pair of games against Augusta University. She combined to go 5-for-6 with three RBI and three doubles, as Georgia College downed the Jaguars 3-1 and 8-1.
In addition to her scorching hot performance at the plate, Flanders was nearly lights out in the circle. In three appearances, she picked up two victories while keeping a 1.00 earned run average in 14 innings.
Finishing with a .542 average, a home run, four doubles, seven RBIs and three runs scored, the senior propelled herself towards the top of the PBC in multiple offensive categories. She is now fifth in RBIs, fourth in hits, third in doubles, and seventh in batting average on the season.
This is now the second time in her career that Flanders has achieved the award, as she was also named PBC Player of the Week on March 7, 2016.
