Junior Service League’s Red Nose Run raises money for community

THOMASVILLE- The Thomasville Junior Service League held their annual Red Nose Run on Saturday morning to benefit children in Thomas County through their eyeglass program. 

With approximately 75 people in attendance, President Katie Rush said the run was a great success, especially since the League has not been able to host it since the pandemic. 

Overall winners for the run were Wesley Warren of Thomasville in first place with a time of 18:58, Elliott Butler of Cairo in second place with a time of 19:51 and Holten Dennard of Coolidge in third place with a time of 20:26. 

Overall female winners included Mary Ann Autrey in first place with a time of 23:35, Nancy Herring in second place with a time of 26:50 and Julianne Stowers in third place with a time of 27:29. 

Following the awards for overall winners, runners were awarded in their age category. 

Caroline Sanders placed first in the Female 0-14 age category with a time of 27:48. 

For females ages 15-19, Samantha Jennings of Meigs placed first, clocking in at 30:04. 

Haley Ethredge claimed first place for females ages 20-29 with a time of 31:14. 

Amy Piland of Tallahassee had a time of 27:53, allowing her to win for the females ages 30-39 category. 

For ages 40-49, Kimberly Cooper of Whigham took first with a time a time of 30:18. Peggy Willis finished with a time of 29:53, claiming the win for ages 50-59, while Carol Griffin won for ages 60-69 with a time of 38:32. 

Awards were then given to the male participants. 

With Wesley Warren and Holten Dennard already being named overall winners, Brody Jennings of Meigs took first place in the Male 0-14 age category with a time of 21:38. 

No one competed in the 15-19 age category. 

Aaron Harrell won the male ages 20-29 category, clocking in at 29:30. Rick Lackey took home the medal for the ages 30-39 category with a time of 24:05. 

For ages 40-49, local Jason Hand won with a time of 24:20. 

Jeffrey Capps and Michael Gee were the only two to compete in the 50-59 and 60-69 age categories, both claiming a victory with times of 22:52 and 24:51 respectively. 

Upon completion of awards, all runners were invited to take pictures with Santa. 

With the race now behind them, Rush said the League is looking to their next event. She hopes to plan a Rose Ball to coincide with the Rose Festivities to raise money for the community. She thanked everyone for attending and hopes to see them again at the Rose Ball.
