DAR to hold annual Victorian Christmas Tea and Tour
How would you like to tour the lovely historic Lapham-Patterson House, enjoy wine/cheese, eat homemade goodies with tea/punch and help a local senior towards college tuition? Sounds too good to be true, but it is not.
The Thomasville Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) 2017 Annual Christmas Tea is the answer! For a $15 donation, you can tour the wonderful mid-19th century Lapham-Patterson house, recently renovated and decorated for Christmas while enjoying a part of Thomasville Victorian Christmas.
Hosted by the Thomasville Chapter DAR, the Thomasville Historical Society is generously opening the lovely home in Dawson Street’s historic district of Thomasville for the 21 annual Christmas Tea and Homes Tour.
The Thomasville Chapter began holding a fundraising Tea almost 21 years ago. Today, the DAR Tea helps fund education scholarships through the Lois Elam Scholarship Fund along with other local, state and national projects. The Thomasville Chapter DAR encourages education in the community with this scholarship and other activities in our schools such as the history essay contest and Junior American Citizen contest.
Money from the DAR Christmas Tea is used for the scholarship to assist a local graduating senior entering college for their first year to study history or related fields. Male and female applicants are eligible and are not required to have a DAR connection. For information on how to apply for this scholarship, contact a high school counselor.
The house will be decked out for Christmas with many attendees wearing Victorian attire and the DAR will be offering delicious homemadeholiday food and libations for everyone to enjoy. This is a fun, relaxing way to get your holiday on. There is no stress, just an opportunity to absorb the holiday spirit and more than a few tasty goodies plus help the community. Before or after, you can take advantage of the Victorian Christmas activities in downtown Thomasville.
