Big region game for Bulldogs

Thomasville heads to Quitman tonight for one of its biggest region games in recent memory.

As talented as the Bulldogs are, the game against Brooks County is “gut check” time for a lot of these players. They have lost two straight disappointing games against Colquitt County and Cairo. Thomasville’s had two weeks to think about its four-point loss to the Syrupmakers.

Oh, by the way, the Bulldogs are looking for revenge after what happened last year against the Trojans. According to Thomasville coach Richie Marsh, he was embarrassed after last year’s 14-6 defeat.

Coupled that stinging memory with this being Thomasville’s first Region 1-AA of the season, and tonight brings extra importance for the Bulldogs.

Thomasville’s offense will need to improve upon its 43-yard performance it had last year against Brooks County. That starts with getting Jeffery Dyson more than just four touches. The speedster is one of Thomasville’s best offensive weapons and his speed should be utilized.

Thomasville’s defense needs to hem up Keith Christopher, who had more than 100 rushing yards against the Bulldogs a year ago.

It should be a defensive battle with Brooks County prevailing.

Central at Jones County

Thomas County Central’s longest road trip for a region game takes place tonight when it plays in Gray against Jones County. It should be a joyous ride home.

The Yellow Jackets found some offensive rhythm last week against Upson-Lee. Quarterback Eric Dodson and running back Curtis Brooks provide Central with a solid 1-2 punch in the backfield.

Central’s defense is tough to score on, having allowed just two touchdowns all season. The Greyhounds are in for a long night.

Cairo at Monroe

It’s never fun for a visiting team at Hugh Mills Stadium. It won’t be tonight for the Cairo Syrupmakers.

Monroe is athletic, stingy on defense and itching for a victory against a top-notch program. Beating the defending Class AAA champs qualifies.

Brookwood at Valwood

One of these teams will emerge with their first victory of the season. One will not. Unfortunately, for the visiting Warriors, too many question marks remain. The biggest may be how they deal with the loss of Kevin Hudson at quarterback. Running the wing-T has not been easy this year. It won’t be tonight.

Record: 8-2
