THS boys, girls track and field sweep region

THOMASVILLE – Thomasville’s boys and girls track and field teams scored an impressive region sweep on Tuesday at Worth County.
Competing in Region 1 in Division 1-A, the Lady Bulldogs finished with 194 points, ahead of second-place Jeff Davis with 169 points, and third-place Worth County, with 118 points. Thomasville’s boys finished with 183 points and edged out second-place Worth County, with 165.50 points; and third-place Berrien, with 137.50.
“I’m extremely proud of this team and staff. Everyone put in all of the necessary work this season to get us to this point,” Thomasville head coach Chris Guyton said. “It’s a well-deserved history-making moment for our program.”
Thomasville will next compete in sectionals, scheduled for May 2 in Cochran.
Thomasville’s top girls’ finishers included Lauryn Samson, who set a new school record with a first-place finish in the 400 meters in a time of 1:0127. She advanced to sectionals, as did Makayla Clark in four events. She won first place in the high jump, triple jump, 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. Semaya Ivey also advanced to sectionals by finishing fourth in the discus and second in the shot put.
Kennedy Brooks won the shot put and finished fifth in the discus, while Nishyah Duncan and Mikayla Rahming each finished fifth in the shot put and triple jump respectively.
The girls 4×800-meter relay team of Justina Butler, Journie Guion, Kamari Brown, and Jamella Bonham placed third, while the 4×400-meter relay team of A’naijah Thurman, Lauryn Sampson, Kyli Alexander, and Mikayla Rahming advanced to sectionals after a first-place finish. The 4×200-meter relay team of A’naijah Thurman, Lauryn Sampson, Kyli Alexander, and Lykenya Johnson also advanced after their first-place finish.
Akyah James advanced in the triple jump after her second-place finish. Lykenya Johnson advanced after a second-place finish in the 100 meters. Kyli Alexander advanced to sectionals after a second-place finish in the 400 meters. Journie Guion advanced in the 300-meter hurdles with a second-place finish. She also finished fifth in the long jump.
Justina Butler placed fifth in the 800 meters, while Kamari Brown finished fifth in the 3,200 meters.
On the boys’ side, Zavien Clark advanced in three individual events with second-place finishes in the discus, 400 meters and 110-hurdles. He also placed fifth in the shot put. Makari Williams advanced in four events, including a first-place finish in the triple jump, third place in the long jump, third in the 110-hurdles, and second in the 300-hurdles.
Da’Marion Florence advanced in the discus after finishing fourth, and Addam Barnes advanced in the triple jump after placing fourth.
The 4×800-relay team of Jayden Isom, Joshua Williams, Mario Thomas, and Markese Futch advanced with a fourth-place finish, while the 4×400-relay team of Messiah Wilson, Joshua Williams, Za’quorion Drew, and Mario Thomas advanced after finishing second.
The 4×200-relay team of Za’quorion Drew, Kayden Walker, Christian Hayes, and Karter Walker finished first, while the 4×100-relay team of Messiah Wilson, Karter Walker, Christian Hayes, and Kayden Walker also placed first. Both teams advanced to sectionals.
Mario Thomas advanced to sectionals after winning the 110-hurdles and 300-hurdles. Speedster Kayden Walker advanced by winning the 100 meters and 200 meters, while brother Karter Walker advanced after finishing second in the 100 meters. He also finished sixth in the 200 meters.
Christian Hayes placed second in the 200 meters and third place in the 100 meters. Messiah Wilson won the 400 meters, while Za’quorion Drew finished third in the 400 meters. Jayden Ison finished fourth in the 800 meters. All advanced to sectionals.
