Central softball knocked out of Class 6-A playoffs

GUYTON – Thomas County Central’s softball season came to an end Thursday in the Class 6-A playoffs.

Central dropped its second straight game to St. Pius X 7-4 in the double elimination format. The Golden Lions knocked off the Lady Yellow Jackets 13-5 in the tournament opener on Wednesday.

Central was the No. 2 seed from Region 1, while St. Pius was the No. 3 seed from Region 4.

Defensive miscues contributed to Central’s ouster in the super regional. It committed four errors in Thursday’s game, leading to two unearned runs. St. Pius X overcame a 4-0 deficit after two innings. It also tallied 10 hits and capitalized on a pair of walks.

Central committed two errors in Wednesday’s game, leading to four unearned runs, highlighted in an 11-run third inning that quickly erased a 3-0 Central advantage.

Gina Morabito paced Central’s offense on Thursday with three hits, while Sarah Stewart and Jaida Pinkins each added two hits. Stewart added two runs scored, while Kennedy Warren and Laney Mobley each drove in two runs.

Aly Morabito led Central with two hits in the first game on Wednesday, while Stewart and Gina Morabito each scored two runs. Stewart, Aly Morabito and Mobley each collected an RBI for Central.

Central’s only win in the postseason came via a 20-0 rout of Rockdale on Wednesday.

The Lady Jackets finished the season 15-15.

South Effingham, the No. 1 seed in the Super Regional, advanced after disposing of St. Pius X 8-0 on Thursday.
