TIFTON — The Town Terrace Motel, located at 308 W. 12th St., could be seeing some changes in the near future.

The future of the landmark motel, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, is on the agenda for the Historic Preservation Commission meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The property is currently for sale, and potential buyers are scheduled to present options at the HPC meeting.

Violet Van Gundy and her family owned and operated the Town Terrace Motel on U.S. Highway 41 for approximately 55 years, according to a 2008 Tifton Gazette article.

Van Gundy, who died in 2010, played Baby Violet on the “Our Gang” (“Little Rascals”) shows.

Built in the 1940s, Town Terrace, also known as the Pink Motel, was originally known as Van Gundy’s Motor Court.

In the motel’s heyday during the 1950s and 60s, Highway 41, the I-75 of its time, was lined with many unique, small motels that, for the most part, have vanished. It was a major stopover for all manner of guests traveling on 41, the major route to Florida at the time.

The HPC meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Tifton Municipal Courtroom, located at 130 5th St. E.
