THOMASVILLE- Thomasville City Schools is excited to introduce the Bulldog +1 program, an initiative designed to ensure that every student graduates with a clear plan for their future— whether that’s being enrolled in college or a two-year program, employed by learning a skilled trade, or enlisted in the military to serve and build a career.

The program was officially introduced to teachers on March 13th, and informational brochures and stickers are now available at MacIntyre Park Middle School and Thomasville High School to help students and families learn more about their options.

“We are thrilled to bring this program to our students,” said Dr. Scott Sweeting, Superintendent of Thomasville City Schools. “It’s about taking the incredible opportunities we already offer and streamlining them into a clear, accessible plan. Whether a student chooses college, a technical program, a skilled trade, or the military, we want them to have direction, support, and confidence as they take their next steps beyond graduation.”

Guiding students toward high-demand, high-reward careers

The Bulldog +1 program emphasizes high-demand, high-reward careers and provides students with resources to explore their options. Teachers, counselors, and school leaders are committed to helping students explore all available pathways and make informed decisions about their future.

Matt Kirkley, Computer Science Teacher at Thomasville High School and MacIntyre Park Middle School, highlighted the program’s impact, sharing “Bulldog +1 provides opportunities for our students to discover high needs, high-rewards careers. We have so many exciting things happening in Thomasville City Schools, from the new 6-12th grade building to expanded course offerings that will open more doors for our students.”

Expanding opportunities for College-bound students

For students looking to enroll in college, Thomasville City Schools encourages them to explore the Scholars Academy, which offers outstanding academic opportunities, including 19 AP course offerings to challenge and prepare students for college; enhanced vertical alignment between middle & high school gifted teachers; and a small, family-like atmosphere where every student is valued.

By integrating rigorous academics with career and college readiness, the district ensures students have multiple pathways to success.

Student perspectives

Thomasville High School seniors recognize the importance of having a well-defined plan beyond graduation.

“It is important to have a plan after graduation to keep from being lost and confused on what to do next,” Ni’shyah Duncan said. “I am thankful to know what career paths are available to me and to have the opportunity to experience life, travel, attend college, and see the world beyond Thomasville. Furthering my education is very important to me.”

Duncan plans to attend Albany State University to major in Elementary Education, with hopes of pursuing a master’s degree in the future. She will begin working at the Resource Center in March as part of her career preparation.

William Bell echoed Duncan’s words.

“To be thrust into the unknown after graduation is both scary and risky in today’s world,” Bell said. “I don’t want to lose sight of who I am, and having a plan helps me stay focused on success. I knew at a young age that I could do great things, and THS has opened doors for me at Kennesaw State and beyond.”

Bell plans to attend Kennesaw State University, where he will pursue dual majors in Meteorology and Biology, setting the foundation for an exciting future.

A commitment to student success

Thomasville City Schools remain committed to providing students with the tools, knowledge, and support they need to succeed beyond high school. The Bulldog +1 initiative ensures that every graduate walks across the stage with not only a diploma—but a plan for what’s next.
