Church money, checkbook stolen, suspect caught on video

THOMASVILLE — A woman suspected of stealing money and checks from a Thomas County church was caught on video at a Boston store where she allegedly cashed checks written on the church.

On Sept. 24, Thomas County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to Restoration Outreach Ministries Church on Midway Road.

“No one had been there since the 18th, and they discovered a door had been kicked in,” said Capt. Tim Watkins, sheriff’s office chief investigator.

A bank bag, checkbook and the church stamp were missing.

“Two of the checks had been cashed in Boston,” Watkins said, adding that the checks were for $150 and $250.

Surveillance video of the suspect was posted Wednesday on social media. The woman was quickly identified by a former classmate and by a relative who lives in Alabama.

“This person said he had gone to school with her in Alabama,” the investigator said.

The woman is wearing a Dothan High School T-shirt, along with a COVID mask, in the surveillance video.

A relative who lives in Dothan told Watkins she would bring the woman to Thomasville on Thursday to be interviewed by investigators.
