Woman jumps from moving vehicle after attack
THOMASVILLE — A Thomasville police officer on patrol on West Jackson Street saw a woman jump from a moving car near Parnell Street.
The officer went to the woman.
“He had given what he saw to dispatch,” said Thomasville Police Department Maj. Shane Harris.
Another officer in the area tried to stop the white Honda Civic from which the woman jumped.
“The vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed,” Harris said.
The vehicle, found later on Hawkins Lane, had struck a mailbox and wrecked.
A TPD K9 traced a scent from the wrecked Honda to an apartment at Thomasville Motor Inn on North Boulevard.
When no one responded, police obtained search and arrest warrants and entered the apartment. No one was in the apartment, Harris said.
The suspect, Quenton Everett, 101 Cleo Court, surrendered at the Thomas County Jail later in the day.
The victim said she was driving along West Jackson when Everett, hiding in the back of the car, grabbed her hair and clothing.
“He told her if she stopped, he would shoot her,” Harris said. “Fearful for her life, she jumped from the car.”
The officer said Everett and the woman formerly were in a relationship.
The 33-year-old suspect is charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment and theft by taking motor vehicle.
Everett was denied bond and remains in jail.
