Jerry Kenneth Mallett Jr. M.D.

Funeral services for Jerry Kenneth Mallett, Jr. M.D., 58, of Thomasville will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Thomasville sanctuary with interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Marty Carnes will officiate. Dr. Mallett passed away on Nov. 8, 2014 at his home in Thomasville. Born August 21, 1956 in Biloxi, Miss., he was the son of Jerry Kenneth and the late Betty V. Mallett. Dr. Mallett grew up in Pascagoula, Miss., with three younger sisters. Boy Scouts was an integral part of his childhood, and he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., with a degree in chemistry. Dr. Mallett married his sweetheart Gwyn Soday in August 15, 1981, and then received his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of South Alabama Medical Center in pediatrics. Dr. Mallett was a pediatrician for Thomasville’s Pediatric Center for several years, followed by his role of physician at Rose Haven at Southwestern State Hospital, caring and advocating for patients with developmental disabilities. In his free time he enjoyed going to the beach, perfecting crab patties, and spending time with his family. Every summer Dr. Mallett served as the physician for Camp ARROW, a camp for children with disabilities. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomasville. He is survived by his wife; children Lauryl Mallett Eppler (Adam) of York, PA, Kenneth Mallett (Lauren) of Moultrie, and Seth Mallett of Atlanta; his father, Jerry Kenneth Mallett, of Gautier, MS; and sisters Jill Olsen of Gautier, MS, Dynitia Davis (Raymond), of Hurley, MS, and Molly Womack (Bill) of Fairhope, AL; and many nieces and nephews. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Camp ARROW, P.O. Box 647, Thomasville, GA 31799.
