Norman Park man hospitalized after stabbing

NORMAN PARK, Ga. — A Sunday morning dispute between roommates in Norman Park sent one to the emergency room with a stab wound and the other to jail.

Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched at about 5:54 a.m. to 144 W. Broad St. to a report of a stabbing.

There they found Lamar Scott Downing on his back with a stab wound to the stomach, agency reports said.

Downing was transported to Colquitt Regional Medical Center, the reports said.

Downing’s roommate was being held at Colquitt County Jail as a suspect. He told police he was defending himself in the incident and had not been charged as of Monday afternoon.

“I’m still trying to gather information on it,” said sheriff’s Sgt. Nathan Cato.

Downing remained hospitalized on Monday, Cato said.

A condition report was not available from the hospital on Monday afternoon.
