VSU volleyball tops West Georgia

Four Valdosta State volleyball players registered double-digit kills, Sara Dandridge finished with 40 assists and Sydney Chick had 24 digs as the Blazers downed the West Georgia Wolves 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 25-14, 25-11) at The Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Tristyn Sells, Katie McInnis and Lindsey Robinson had 11 kills apiece and Chloe Chubilleau recorded 10 as Valdosta State (7-3, 2-0 Gulf South Conference) picked up its third victory in a row.

West Georgia (1-8, 0-1) suffered its fourth straight loss.

After dropping the first set, the Blazers surged to win the final two sets. West Georgia pulled ahead 7-5 in the opening set, getting 13 kills during the stretch. VSU tied things at 22 before the Wolves earned the final three points.

The Blazers fell behind 7-3 in the second set before rallying. Sells and Robinson had kills and took advantage of a pair of West Georgia attack errors to trim the deficit to 11-10. Dandridge set up Chubilleau for a kill to knot it at 16. Another Dandridge-to-Chubilleau connection pulled VSU ahead 17-16.

The Wolves received a point after an attack error, then the Blazers took over.

Dandridge set up Kayla Widera for a go-ahead kill, pulling ahead 18-17.

Valdosta State’s defense didn’t surrender another point in the set.

Sells had a pair of kills, Wildera and Dandridge offered one apiece to close out the set.

The Wolves raced to a 10-6 advantage in the third set, but VSU made a 14-3 run to roll out to a 20-13 lead. Devon Dickey’s two service aces gave VSU a 22-13 lead. McInnis had a block and added a kill and Chubilleau adding one of her own late in the set for VSU.

McInnis made back-to-back kills early in the final set and Robison added two more to push Valdosta State to a 7-0 lead, continuing to build momentum. A Chubilleau kill ballooned the lead to 22-9. McInnis and Widera recorded a kill apiece to end the match.

Anjelina Webb paced the Wolves with 11 kills and 14 digs. Faith Pearson had five kills. Madi Flemming finished with 22 digs.

VSU took advantages in kills (54-29), assists (48-27) and hitting percentage (.183-.021).

The Blazers seek their fourth win in a row Friday night at 7 at Alabama-Huntsville.
