Teen found dead at Moody pool

UPDATE: The teen who drowned at Moody Air Force Base has been identified as Joshua Gardner, a Lowndes County High School football player, according to Lowndes County Coroner’s Office.


MOODY AIR FORCE BASE – A 17-year-old was found unresponsive at the Moody Air Force Base swimming pool around 7 p.m. Sunday, according to Moody officials.

He was later pronounced dead at South Georgia Medical Center, according to a statement released by Moody AFB Monday morning. 

“The Moody family is deeply saddened by this tragedy,” said Col. Jennifer Short, 23rd Wing Commander. “I extend my deepest condolences and prayers to his family and loved ones during this heartbreaking time.”

An investigation is currently ongoing. The base pool will remain closed until further notice, a press release states.
