MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Colquitt County man who was charged in a 2013 knife attack that occurred when he reportedly found his wife at another man’s home was sentenced to probation and ordered to attend anger management.

Colquitt County Superior Court Judge Harry J. Altman II sentenced Zebulon Eli Meyer, 33, to a total of five years of probation this week. Meyer entered guilty pleas to three counts of battery and one count each of criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

In addition to probation, Altman ordered Meyer to pay fines totaling $2,000, to complete an anger-management program and to undergo alcohol and drug screening and counseling.  

Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Meyer about an hour after Joe Willie Weathers was stabbed multiple times on April 13, 2013, at his 360 Weathers Road residence.

At the time, a sheriff’s investigator told The Observer that Meyer’s wife was at Weathers’ residence at about 3 a.m., when the stabbing occurred.

Tabatha Meyer was treated for unspecified injuries the same day.

Police originally charged her husband with aggravated assault in the knife attack.

In the days following the attack, Tabatha Meyer reported that Weathers had “snapped” when he went to his residence at 2:30 a.m. to visit his daughter. She told police that Weathers punched her in the face, knocked her to the floor and then punched her again, and then refused to let her leave.

In her account to police she said that she ran to the back of the house and called her husband after asking Weathers to let her go outside to get some things out of her car.

After investigating the case police filed no charges against Weathers.
