Joanne Reed Simpson

Joanne Reed Simpson, age 77, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away at Huntsville Hospital, following a long illness, on the morning of Wednesday, July 8, 2020, with her family by her side.

Born Joanne Winifred Reed, in Monticello, Florida on August 30, 1942, Joanne was the daughter of Fred Otto Reed, Sr. and Ella Mae (Daniels) Reed. Joanne graduated from Thomasville High School in Thomasville, Thomas County, Georgia in June of 1961. She was married to David Lee Simpson, Sr., on December 24, 1961, in a double wedding ceremony, along with her brother, Charles James “Skip” Reed and his wife, Patsy Marie Akridge. Following her husband’s military service, they settled in Huntsville, Alabama, where she enjoyed a career as an Administrative Assistant, working for several government contractors, that remain in the area, today. More recently, Joanne had spent the past 40 years, as a homemaker, while raising her two sons.

Mrs. Simpson is preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Simpson, Sr.; and three brothers, Charles James “Skip” Reed, Sr., Fred Otto “Corky” Reed, Jr., and John Alan Reed. She is survived by her two sons, David Lee Simpson Jr. (Raney), of Huntsville, Alabama and Scott Eric Simpson (Trisha) of Huntsville, Alabama; four grandchildren, Julia Simpson-Hawkins (Jeff), of Annapolis, Maryland, David Carter Simpson (Chrysten), of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Mary Katherine Simpson of Huntsville, Alabama, and Matthew Eric Simpson of Huntsville, Alabama; her sister, Sunny Reed Taylor, as well as, ten nieces and nephews.

There will be a private family viewing at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 11, at Berryhill Funeral Home, immediately followed by a graveside service, which close friends and family are invited to attend, to be held at 1:00 p.m. at Huntsville Memory Gardens, with Bro. Jimmy Lehman, officiating, after which, she will be laid to rest by her husband’s side.
