TIFTON — After five years of serving customers at the Myon Hotel on Main Street, The Local has moved into the Lankford Manor to better serve their customers.

The owners of The Local, David and Jennifer Scarbrough, wanted to stay downtown but they wanted to find a building that fit more dinner reservations and still kept the size of their restaurant small enough to ensure every plate of food’s quality.

The name has been changed to The Local at Lankford to preserve the name and heritage of the historic house, said Jennifer.

The Lankford Manor used to be the place people would go for special events such as bridal showers or baby showers. It was famous for their legendary Sunday lunch buffet that offered fried chicken. People would get out of church and flock to the Lankford hoping to get in before the rest of the church crowd.

The Lankford also used to serve as a bed and breakfast inn. It has always been a place for travelers to stop by and enjoy a good meal. Jennifer and David are proud to continue the traditions of the Lankford.

The new location provides the Local a more spacious atmosphere that accommodates a larger crowd. Now the Local has a general dining area that can sit over 40 guests and two private dining areas for parties.

“We didn’t want to be too big but we knew we wanted to be a little bit bigger,” said Jennifer. “We did not want to leave downtown because we thought that was the thread in what we have created with our business.”

The Local at Lankford’s mission is to serve fresh food from the local area. The owners have pride in serving food that was produced from local farms.

“The difference between our restaurant and others is our food actually looks like it does in the picture before you order it,” said David. “If we mess up your order we will make it right.”

David changes the menu periodically depending on what food is in season and also depending on what he feels like cooking. Currently the menu offers items such as shrimp and grits, the Local burger, steake and chicken pot pie.

The Scarbroughs plan on hosting live musical performances now that they have received a 100-year-old piano from New York. The piano was donated to the Local from family friends of Jennifer’s. The Piano has been tuned and serviced by Papa’s Piano Service located in Fitzgerald and is ready to go for musicians.

The Local at Lankford is grateful for the Downtown Development Agency (DDA), the Floor Shoppe, Bill Cooper Construction and the Historic Society for helping them move into the Lankford Manor. “We have had amazing support from the community,” said Jennifer.

The Local at Lankford continues the long history of Sunday lunch buffets. They are open from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. They will serve the traditional fried chicken with a variety of sides to choose from.

The hours of operation are 5:30 p.m. through 9:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 5:30 through 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Address is 401 Love Avenue.
