Tift County 4-H’ers earn Master 4-H status
ears, State Congress has been the competitive and recognition event for high school Georgia 4-H’ers. Held each year in Atlanta, State Congress is a four-day event that hosts various contests recognizing 4-H scholarship recipients and honors state 4-H winners in a variety of projects and competitions.
More than 200 4-H’ers come together from all over the state to deliver 10 to 12 minute presentations in various project areas and meet with specialist judges to be interviewed about their portfolio. Their portfolios showcase yearlong work in their project area, leadership, and community service.
Throughout the week, 4-H student-led service projects, professionals, friends, private donors and public officials are highlighted for their contributions to the success of Georgia 4-H.
This year, Tift County was represented by nince delegates who came to compete for the title of a Master 4-H’er or to be recognized for excelling in other State Level 4-H Competitions. Those delegates and their various project areas were Sara Beth Massey, Ja’Mi Barnes, Lydia Connell, Dana Wells, Seth Jones, Liz Pridgon, Mia Savelli, Cory Frazier and Jordan Daniels.
Over the four-day event, Frazier was recognized for Mastering in State Air Pistol,
Daniels was inducted into the 2018-2019 State 4-H Board Of Directors,
Massey received 1st place and Master Status in the Textiles, Merchandising & interiors category.
Barnes received 2nd place in the Food Fare Category.
Connell also received 2nd place in the Horse Category, and Wells received 3rd place in the Dog Care and Training Category.
Other 4-H’ers received honorable mention in their project areas: Jones (entomology), Savelli (performing arts general) and Pridgon (fruits vegetables and nuts).
In addition to competing in her project area, Connell was also recognized at State Congress for earning Master 4-H Status at the state 4-H horse show.
