Gym doubles space with move
VALDOSTA — ICE House Gym has found a new home and will be relocating July 2.
Formerly located at 3980 Inner Perimeter Road, the business is moving a short distance to 3205 Inner Perimeter Road, said Jake Reeves, ICE House Gym chief executive officer. The move may be short but Reeves said the move is to better serve the gym’s customers.
“A lot of people wanted to come see what ICE House was all about, but we were on the outskirts of town and out of the way,” he said. “We are only a couple of miles from where we were, but we are now right in the middle of everything. We are a lot more convenient and a lot more relevant in this location.”
When Reeves opened the gym a year and a half ago, he had a vision in his mind of what he wanted to open, he said. But, unfortunately, he didn’t have the funds to bring that vision to life.
“When we first started ICE House it was a really cool concept,” he said. “It was kind of like hometown game with a modern feel to it. But with everything going on, I only had so much to work with to make that vision happen,” he said.
His plan with the new gym location is to bring his vision to reality and give what he has been promising gym members.
“Now, we are stepping our game up over here,” he said. “We want it to be bigger, better, badder. We want it to be a 100 percent overdone gym over here.”
To do this, Reeves needed more space. The old location was approximately 5,000 square feet, he said. The new location will double that with 10,000 square feet.
And with the new room, Reeves is planning to include group classes, a lobby with a small concession area for shakes and smoothies, a boxing room and an area for functional training.
Reeves said people often confuse functional training with CrossFit, but the two are different.
“Our functional training is going to be more bodyweight-type stuff,” he said.
He plans to include olympic rings, peg boards, monkey bars and other functional training equipment.
“We are trying to get away from the CrossFit factor,” he said. “We want more athlete-based lifestyle training.”
Normally gyms have personal trainers teach group classes, and ICE House Gym will be no different; however, ICE House Gym doesn’t actually employ any personal trainers, Reeves said.
The personal trainers at the gym are all self employed and run their own businesses, Reeves said. Personal trainers at ICE House Gym will have access to the gym’s group fitness area and will be able to host classes.
Reeves’ goal is for ICE House Gym to be a destination for residents in Valdosta.
Along with the new space, Reeves will add three or four employees to his team.
