Lady Jackets Softball Team falls to Lady Vikings, 7-0
The Thomas County Lady Jackets softball team got outplayed by the Lowndes Lady Vikings softball team on Wednesday, 7-0.
With the loss on Wednesday to the Lady Vikings, The Lady Jackets have a 15-15 record for the season and have a 9-6 record in the region.
At the start of the game, the Lady Jackets had control of the ball first, but the Lady Vikings forced the Lady Jackets to a quick three outs to give the ball back to the Lady Vikings offense.
The Lady Vikings took control of the game and never looked back because Madison Van Allen hit a homerun, which gave Lowndes an early 1-0 lead in the game. Moments later, Hallie Benefield hit a second home run for her team giving Lowndes a 2-0 lead.
After the Lady Vikings took an early lead, they followed with three more runs in the first inning.
Going to the second inning, the Lady Jackets were down 5-0, and had to pull themselves out of a deep hole.
In the second inning of the game, Thomas County Central’s offense struggled to get anything going offensively, which led to the Lady Vikings offense getting the ball back.
With all the momentum being on the Lady Vikings’ side it looked like the game was about to get out away from Thomas County.
The Lady Jackets turned their defense to another level in this ball game and they managed to force the Lady Vikings to a quick three outs to get the ball to the Lady Jackets’ offense.
Going into the third inning of the game, the Lady Jackets needed to find something offensively and get themselves back in the game. However, that wasn’t the case because the Lady Vikings stopped the Lady Jackets off the field and the struggles continued for Lady Jackets.
Both the Lady Vikings’ and the Lady Jackets’ defenses had taken control of the game and both offenses had no answer for either team’s defense.
Going into the fourth inning, the score was 5-0, and Lowndes had the ball and a chance to take a commanding lead. Abby Rykard and Taylor Smith both made base hits back-to-back to give the Lady Vikings another run..
Nobody on the Lady Jackets roster could find a spark to swing momentum in the favor throughout the game.
Madison Van Allen scored again for Lowndes to give them a 7-0 lead, and the game was out of reach for the Lady Jackets.
Lowndes went on to win the game 7-0. With the win over Thomasville. Lowndes have improved their record to 18-17 and 9-2 in the region.
The regional playoffs are coming up, and the Lady Jackets are gearing up to win the region and make a deep playoff run.
