South Georgia Ballet, Gypsy Cotton team up for performance

Are you ready to have the “Time of Your Life” with South Georgia Ballet and Gypsy Cotton?

Join them March 12 at 6 p.m. and March 13 at 2 p.m. at Thomasville Center for the Arts for a fun evening of ’90s rock featuring South Georgia Ballet’s Senior Company performing to live music by Dana King and Gypsy Cotton.

This is the seventh year (and seventh music genre) that this talented band has performed with South Georgia Ballet. In the words of Artistic Director Melissa June, “I am blown away at how versatile and talented this band is. They have played everything from classic rock, Motown, Broadway and now 90s alternative. We always have a great time when Dana is at the mic and all of these talented musicians share their gifts with our community.”

Gypsy Cotton features music director Chris Hall playing guitar, lap steel and mandolin along with Dana and Chris King on vocals, Seth Golden on bass, Rebecca Brinson playing keys, Dave Blackburn on drums, and Tim Helms playing the guitar. They will be playing a wide range of 90s classics from No Doubt, Blind Melon, Oasis, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many others.

This year’s annual performance of FUSE presents dances choreographed by South Georgia Ballet instructors Melissa June, Kaitlyn Sacco, Rebecca Ross, Kathleen Ewing and Ashley Adams. Also included are two dances by a talented guest choreographer, Orialis Ashley.

She is a Puerto Rican native and Los Angeles-based dancer, choreographer and instructor who has tap danced on Good Morning America, BET Music awards and Beyonce’s IVY PARK London launch. She is a current member of Chloe Arnold’s Syncopated Ladies and teaches at Murrieta Dance Project in Southern California. Ashley received her BFA in Dance from Florida State University and proceeded to tour with the Cleo Robinson Dance Ensemble.

She has danced commercially in various acclaimed events, and her students and choreography have been featured on numerous TV shows, including “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Dance Moms” and “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” She has been a South Georgia Ballet guest artist on multiple occasions, and she visited during the 2021 Summer Intensive to set an impressive tap piece and fun contemporary dance for our upcoming FUSE performance.

Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and come enjoy a fun evening showcasing part of Thomasville’s incredible arts scene! Food and beverages will be available for purchase (valid ID required to purchase adult beverages), and seating is general admission. Tickets are available for purchase on Eventbrite or through at http://www.southgeorgiaballet.org.
