Competitive gymnasts coming to Tifton

TIFTON — Competitive gymnasts will get a chance to learn from some of the best this week at Tift Gymnastics Academy.

TGA is hosting a Gymnastics Training Camp Thursday-Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Registration is $295 and the camp is limited to 50 participants. Lunch will be provided, though gymnasts are expected to bring their own snacks and water.

Ben Ledl of TGA said the camp would be “skills training,” with big names involved coming to Tifton help out.

“We’ll have a couple of Gym Dogs,” he said.

Members of the University of Georgia’s gymnastics team, representatives of the fabled Gym Dogs coming to Tifton are listed as Mary Beth Box and Beth Roberts.

Roberts won multiple individual state titles as a standout for the Tift County Gym Devils, including all-around championships. During her senior season at UGA, Roberts competed on vault and floor and posted a pair of 9.8 scores at the NCAA Regional tournament.

After starring at Georgia, Box served as a graduate assistant for the squad this year.

Also helping out with the camp is Lorenzo Fortune, a gymnastics coach from the metro Atlanta area.

All three helped out with the camp last year.

Ledl said gymnasts coming to train will be from all over Georgia.
