Three nights of thefts; 3 people charged

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Colquitt County deputies following up on a tip about the location of a stolen four-wheeler found it — along with a suspect sitting on it at his residence.

When officers arrived at the 209 Jasmine Lane Road residence of Selinda Marie Daughtry and Stacey Allison Spraggins on Thursday they found the missing $16,000 Polaris XP1000, along with tools, fishing rods and other stolen property found inside.

The four-wheeler had been driven a short distance to the residence after it was taken from a barn in the 800 block of St. Paul Church Road, Omega, Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Katrina Johnson said.

Valdosta resident Jerry Lupo had reported the same day that the vehicle, along with other property, had been stolen. Police also had information about a white Chevrolet S-10 pickup had been seen in the area.

“When notified (of the burglary) I was aware that we had received an anonymous tip the day prior in reference to a vehicle matching that description on Jasmine Lane possibly bringing stolen property to a residence,” Johnson said. “We responded to 209 Jasmine Lane Lot 2 where we had been told the vehicle possibly was located. At that time we found Stacey Spraggins on the four-wheeler outside his house.”

In addition to the four-wheeler, Lupo reported stolen two Lews fishing rods and several thousand dollars worth of other property including a .410-gauge shotgun, saws, weed trimmer and other tools and batteries.

The white pickup truck, Daughtry and a third suspect were tied to the theft by other evidence, Johnson said.

“The victim had cameras put up on his property which captured a white in color S-10 entering onto the property during the night hours of Jan. 7, 8 and 9,” she said. “They came back on three separate occasions. Each time you can see the truck enter the property and leave the property with the bed full of property from inside the barn.”

A woman and man, identified as Daughtry and John William Alderman Jr., also can be seen on the video, police said. A search of the Jasmine Lane residence turned up the two fishing rods and most, but not all, of the remainder of the property reported stolen.

Alderman, 32, of Omega was arrested Thursday by the Tift County Sheriff’s Office on unrelated charges. He was driving Daughtry’s S-10 pickup truck at the time.

In addition to charges related to a chase and traffic charges filed by the Georgia Department of Public Safety, Alderman also is wanted on burglary charges in Florida, Johnson said. He faces three counts of burglary in Colquitt County. A bond has been set in Tift County, but he remained in jail as of Tuesday afternoon.

Daughtry, 49, was charged with three counts of burglary and has been released on a $6,000 bond. Spraggins, 54, was charged with theft by receiving stolen property and has been released on a $4,000 bond.
