THOMASVILLE — A howlin’ good time awaits the furriest residents of Thomasville when City of Thomasville Community Relations, in partnership with Thomas County Humane Society, kicks off the 10th annual Howl-O-Ween celebration at the Dog Park on Saturday, October 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  This unique park is located on South Pinetree Boulevard, across from the Southwestern State Hospital campus.

This year’s celebration will include the popular doggie and me costume contest and other well-loved games and contests, including fastest tail wagging, best sloppy kiss, and super silly pet tricks. As part of the fun and games, a new special treat also will be featured for the participating pooches — bacon-flavored bubbles.

“If you ever see a dog around bubbles, you’ll notice that most will try to go after the bubbles in a way that probably gives them a soapy taste in their mouths,” said Senior Assistant City Manager Kha McDonald. “We are going to change that up a bit by giving the dogs at Howl-O-Ween a tasty treat they are sure to love.”

There will also be fun for the humans at the popular event, with face painting and fun freebies — including special doggy bandanas that will be perfect to display in pet photos that also will be offered that day. 

“We’ll also have a not-so haunted house, obedience training demonstrations from Bark Busters, and treats and safety tips from the Thomasville Police Department,” said McDonald. “It’s a wonderful way to spend an afternoon in one of our community’s lovely parks.”

The Thomas County Humane Society will be on site with dogs available for adoption during the event. Southern Regional Technical College’s Veterinary Technology Program will also offer free nail trimmings.A fun and engaging dog-themed story time — Yappy Hour — will also be provided by The Bookshelf.  

Howl-O-Ween is free and open to the public.All dogs must be at least six months old and be current on all shots and vaccinations to use the City of Thomasville Dog Park. For more information about Howl-O-Ween, call 227-7001.
