TCC rallies to top Deerfield Beach

THOMASVILLE — A two-out error allowed Carson Odom to score in the bottom of the seventh inning and lifted the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets to a 6-5 win over Deerfield Beach (Florida) on Wednesday.

The Yellow Jackets rallied twice to the game after falling behind 3-1 in the third inning. After an error allowed a run to score, Shane Stephenson lined a run-scoring single to left field to tie the game at 3-3.

An error and Nick Lagasi’s RBI single put the Bucks back in front 5-3 in the fifth. But the Yellow Jackets answered again, as Nick Herndon delivered a two-out, two-run single in the sixth.

The Bucks had runners on second and third with two outs in the top of the seventh, but Pace Mercer got Tyler Small to ground out to end the threat.

Odom was 2-for-3 for the Yellow Jackets, and Herndon finished 1-for-4 with three RBIs. Mack McDowell was 2-for-3 with a triple, and Zach Fletcher and Slide Taylor each added a double.

Avery Thomas was 2-for-3 for Deerfield Beach, and Tyler Cissone had two RBIs.

Five Yellow Jackets pitchers combined to strike out nine Bucks and give up just two earned runs. The Yellow Jackets had eight hits and also drew five walks off Deerfield Beach pitching.

Thomas County Central, now 17-1, will host Bainbridge in a doubleheader Friday.
