Daycare facility evacuated in electrical scare

THOMASVILLE — An electrical contractor was due at Kids World Daycare at 1 p.m. Tuesday, but an electrical problem manifested itself an hour before help was scheduled to arrive.

An electrical apparatus on the outside of the 140 Old Boston Road facility malfunctioned shortly before noon, resulting in smoldering and smoke, but no fire, said Chris Jones, Thomas County Fire/Rescue chief.

“They called the fire department because there was smoke,” Jones said.

Children were dismissed for the day so electrical personnel and a Thomasville Utilities crew could make repairs.

Jones said the daycare conducts regular fire drills.

“They’re extremely good at it,” the chief said. “When we got here, they had evacuated.”
