Central baseball remains hot, wins opener of Invitational
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It may not have been a region game nor was it held in Georgia, but the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets remained red hot Wednesday.
Central won its 13th straight game with a 2-1 victory over Nease High School at the Jacksonville Invitational.
The Yellow Jackets scored a run in the first inning and another in the sixth to secure the victory. Griffin Taylor had Central’s only RBI while recording three of the Yellow Jackets’ six hits. He clobbered a pitch over the center field wall to provide the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.
Reid Harvey scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to pad Central’s lead.
Adam Lane notched the win for the Yellow Jackets on the mound, pitching six innings. He tossed 12 first-pitch strikes, allowed four hits with one strikeout, while recording a microscopic 0.67 WHIP.
The Yellow Jackets returned to the diamond again today at 6 p.m. when they will play Bertram Trail at the Jacksonville Invitational.
