Yellowjackets look to win region on the road

THOMASVILLE – Thomas County Central has had its share of experience playing on the road this season. It’s only fitting that if the Yellow Jackets are to capture their first region title since 2016, they will have to do so away from the Jackets Nest.

Central will need to win one, if not both, of its final two games to win the Region 1-AAAAAA championship. Its trek to the region title will take Central to Lee County on Friday followed by a road trip to Northside-Warner Robins on Nov. 4.

“This was circled from the first of the year, these last three were going to be tough. It doesn’t get any easier,” Central coach Justin Rogers said. “We’re going to go play two really good teams and programs. We’ve just got to worry about Lee right now.”

Central is the only undefeated team in Region 1 following last week’s come-from-behind 42-21 win over Houston County and Lee County’s shocking last-second 23-20 loss to Northside-Warner Robins (WR). Central can win the region title Friday with a win over Lee County and a loss by Northside-WR to Veterans. A win by Central coupled with a win by Northside-WR means those teams would play for the region title at McConnell Talbert Stadium in Warner Robins the following week.

Central has already won at Thomasville, Chiles (Fla.), Godby (Fla.) and Tift County this season. The Yellow Jackets will not be intimidated at these next two venues.

“It is what it is, you play them where they tell you to play them,” Rogers said.
