Library opens new chapter Saturday
VALDOSTA — The Willis L. Miller Library will host its grand opening Saturday.
The new library is a part of the South Georgia Regional Library system, and is replacing the library formerly located at 300 Woodrow Wilson Drive.
As with most grand openings, there will be a ribbon cutting to observe the library being open for public use.
Unlike traditional grand openings, there will be a variety of activities for children, teens and adults, said Jeanna Allums, head librarian.
There will be story times, a puppet show and an appearance by the Very Hungry Caterpillar from the Eric Carle book of the same name for children; a live butterfly release for all and live music for all ages and technology demonstrations for teens and adults.
There will be guided tours of the library for residents, she said.
The Willis L. Miller Library, 2906 Julia Drive, offers traditional library services such as research assistance and books, both print and digital, along with digital resources such as digital magazines, access to language learning courses professional tutoring services, meeting room spaces, technology such as 3D printers and more.
The library was named after Willis L. “Wyn” Miller, according to the library website.
A lifelong resident of Valdosta and previous trustee and chairman of the South Georgia Regional Library System Board of Trustees, Miller and his family have a long history of serving the community, the website states.
The ribbon cutting will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, and the library will open shortly thereafter. The library will close 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The ribbon cutting is open to the public.
