DPD to observe Peace Officers Memorial Day with ceremony, cookout

DALTON, Ga. — The Dalton Police Department will host a ceremony on Tuesday to observe Peace Officers Memorial Day. The ceremony will be held near the Chief William Hannah Police Memorial on the grounds of the Police Services Center at 3 p.m. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be inside the Police Services Center. Afterwards, the department will serve a light meal of grilled hot dogs and chips. The public is invited. The ceremony will continue the department’s tradition of observing National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day. The ceremony will include a presentation by the department’s honor guard and a recognition of all Georgia law enforcement officers lost in the line of duty in the past year. May 15 was declared to be National Peace Officers Memorial Day by President John F. Kennedy in 1962. President Kennedy further declared the week in which Peace Officers Memorial Day falls to be National Police Week. This year, Police Week runs from Sunday through Saturday, May 19.

Wild Adventures gives free child tickets in happy meals

VALDOSTA, Ga. — Summer is here and Wild Adventures Theme Park has launched a promotion to give out one voucher for a child’s ticket with the purchase of a Happy Meal through the month of May. To run the promotion, Wild Adventures has partnered with Middle and South Georgia McDonald’s franchises, according to Wild Adventures representatives. The promotion will run in more than 180 McDonald’s in the state. “Like Wild Adventures, families visit McDonald’s to share moments and create lasting memories,” said Abdul Ziaee, McDonald’s owner and operator, in a statement. “Together, we’re committed to delivering family-focused experiences this summer. As we continue to raise the bar for our customers, we’re excited to add to the fun of the Happy Meal experience – inspiring more family time together by packing an entire day of fun and adventure into each Happy Meal.” For Wild Adventures, the promotion is just another way to create family-focused experiences. “At Wild Adventures, our mission is to make memories worth repeating,” Patrick Pearson, Wild Adventures marketing director, said. “I can’t think of a better way to kick-start those memories than beginning with a McDonald’s Happy Meal, which has created joyful family moments for decades.” The tickets, representing a $44 value, require the purchase of a full price adult admissions ticket. “These tickets are essentially (buy one, get one) offers,” Adam Floyd, Wild Adventures public relations manager, said. Floyd said the tickets are a great value because the tickets include more than just an amusement park. The tickets include theme park rides, dozens of concerts, a water park, special events and hundreds of animals to view. “We are really hoping that this attracts families to Valdosta as a destination point,” Floyd said. “We are really excited to partner with an established business like McDonalds, and I think it’s a big move for Wild Adventures.” And while Wild Adventures benefits from making Valdosta a destination, so does the local economy, he said. When tourists come to the park for the day, they get a hotel, eat at restaurants here and buy from stores. There are a few caveats that come with the vouchers. Along with the purchase of an adult admissions ticket, when the vouchers are redeemed the child’s ticket must be used that day, the vouchers are only valid through July 31 and the tickets are for children 9 and younger.
