Get your costume

THOMASVILLE — The annual Victorian Christmas festival will light up downtown Thomasville next week and community members have the opportunity to get properly dressed up for the occasion.

Downtown Thomasville Main Street is again offering Victorian costumes for rent. This year’s window to pick up a costume is 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Wednesday.

“Costumed strollers make Victorian Christmas a unique festival,” Karen Smith, director of Main Street and Tourism, said in a news release. “Visitors love to have their photos taken with the costumed strollers, and it really makes for an authentic evening.”

Costume rentals are $10 fee and a $20 deposit. The deposit is refundable if the costume is returned by Jan. 15, 2010, with a dry cleaning receipt.

Costumes are available in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and styles for men and women.

All renters must agree to stroll the designated festival area on both nights of Victorian Christmas, 6 until 10 p.m., Thursday and Friday.

“With more than 100 costumes to choose from, everyone is sure to find something grand to wear as Thomasville steps back into time,” according to the news release.

For more information, contact Main Street at 227-7020 or go to the office, located inside the Thomasville Municipal Auditorium building at the corner of East Jackson and Crawford streets.
