Fall for Art exhibit closes Jan. 6
Sandi Shaw, an artist and founder of Pines & Palms: The Florida and Georgia Artist Association, curated the work of local and regional artists to create a two-venue show displayed at the Thomasville-Thomas County Chamber of Commerce and the Thomas County Public Library through Jan. 6.
Shaw describes the work as “a collection that ranges from stunning landscapes from award-winning Sarasota artists like Joe Palmerio and Katie Dobson Cundriff, to delightful first showings from local artists Deane Norwood and 92-year-old Marceline Yarborough, who sold her first two floral paintings just last year.”
The exhibit is made up mostly of paintings, but four photographic images of sporting dogs by local photographer Chris Mathan are also in the show. These photos and a classic fox hunt painting by Randy Brienen are at the chamber. The works of these two artists and other master artists will appeal to traditional Southern homeowners looking for artwork to give as gifts. Artist Tracy Foutz-Hunt’s painting of the renovated Thomas County Courthouse shows off the city’s commitment to historic preservation.
A large eye-catching work, a fantasy scene by Eric Sappronetti of Tallahassee, Florida, will delight detail lovers. It shows a cowboy on horseback at the ruins of Tulum, an ancient Mayan Village. The painting is at the library. So is the whimsical farm pig painting entitled “Pig Out” by Riley Howard. The happy pig about to jump will make every child smile.
“We are lucky to show Susan Richardson’s work. She is a talented, funny and generous gal from Apalachicola who has been involved in several past Flaunt events in Thomasville and plein air events in Boston,” Shaw says. Richardson’s oil paintings are from her recent trip to Mexico and are memorable for her use of color in the figures and architectural elements.
“My hope,” said Shaw, “is that the art lovers in this community will start to recognize these painters as individual artists and look forward to collecting their work.”
