Trucks and tractors take to the dirt at ABAC
TIFTON — Crowds filled the seats and lined the track with pickup trucks for Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College’s truck and tractor pull last weekend.
The event, hosted by the Agriculture Engineering Technology club, took place starting Friday night with amateur night, where students and members of the community could try their hand at pulling the weighted sled down a dirt track.
The main event came Saturday, as participants in the Southern Pullers Association competed for the top spot in their individual classes.
Chris Burgess kicked off the event by winning the Two Wheel Drive Pro Street Truck class in Southern Draw II with a distance of 347.95 feet. April Browning completed the longest pull of the night, going 405.91 feet in Athena, earning first place in the 2.5 Diesel class
In the Two Wheel Drive Blown class, Daniel Johnson took home first place with a 369.88-foot pull in Gold Leaf Gambler, while Jason Brannen won first place in the Two Wheel Drive Non-Blown class, pulling 348.7 feet in Always Sump’n. In the Two Wheel Drive Modified class, Russ Martin and his truck Hog Wild took the win with a pull of 329.56 foot.
In the tractor divisions, Jeffery Turnner won the Light Pro Stock Tractor class with his 294.57-foot pull in Turnner Loose, and Rod Stoll took the Limited Pro Stock Tractor class, pulling 313.67 feet in “Low Country Hooker.”
In the Four Wheel Drive Truck divisions, Barry Cobb won first place in the Four Wheel Drive Modified division in Bandit for a 308.92-foot pull. Pat Holt took first place in the Four Wheel Drive Pro Stock division with a pull of 334.79 feet in Stampede.
Finally, the night ended with the Four Wheel Drive Pro Street division, with Matthew McGlashan earning some good luck in Bad Luck, taking first place with a pull of 266.56 feet.
Concessions for the event Saturday were provided by the Agronomy Club, who were raising money for a trip to California. More pulling was featured Sunday night, closing out the event.
