Man charged with murder in death of his two-week-old son

TIFTON — A Tifton man, Timothy Rugg, 39, is being charged with murder in the death of his two-week-old son, according to Tifton Police Department Detective Amanda Faircloth.

Police responded to a 911 call around 1:35 a.m., Nov. 5 to the 0-100 block of Ira Drive, according to a TPD report.

Officers arrived to find an unconscious two-week-old infant, the report states.

The infant, named Timothy Suggs, was “blue in color” and not breathing, according to the report.

Officer Katelyn Faircloth began administering CPR to the infant while officer Douglas Chadwell called in Emergency Medical Services, the report states.

According to the report, Rugg, who made the 911 call, told officers that he was “laying in bed with the baby and that he noticed he wasn’t breathing.”

When EMS arrived, Faircloth took the infant to the EMS truck, according to the report.

Paramedics continued performing CPR, asking Chadwell to take over while they got their automated external defibrillator (AED) machine ready, according to the report.

He did so until paramedics asked for one of the officers to drive the ambulance to Tift Regional Medical Center, the report states.

Faircloth drove the ambulance to TRMC while paramedics continued to work on stabilizing the infant, according to the report.

Upon arrival at TRMC, “the staff there began performing all life-saving measures,” said Amanda Faircloth.

“Once they got him stabilized early that morning, they were able to transfer him to a trauma center in Macon,” said Amanda Faircloth.

At the trauma center, extensive tests were performed that indicated the child’s injuries were from Shaken Baby Syndrome, according to Amanda Faircloth.

Multiple tests over the next couple of days showed no brain activity. Suggs succumbed to his injuries on Nov. 11, according to Amanda Faircloth.

Rugg was charged with murder on Nov. 21, according to Amanda Faircloth.

He is currently in jail.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
